About Yorick

First, the disclaimer: Like the quintessential Yup/Nope taciturn Vermonter, Yorick–who goes around disguised as Kenric Kite– is usually a man of few words, but get ‘im riled about something on Town Meetin’ Day and you have to knock ‘im upside the head with Granny’s cast iron pan to shut him up.

Now the nitty gritty: He grew up in the city of Burlap on Vermont’s own West Coast and now makes his living hobnobbing with locals in Montpeculiar. When he and the missus are at home they like to work in the garden, do puzzles of various sorts and talk about the bizness of the day ’round the stove. Other than that, mind your own.

Disclaimer to the disclaimer: This is Kenric writing. The agent that wrote the above words has been sacked. Suffice it to say I’m not really such a jerk, but actually a pretty nice guy. Opinionated, sure, but who isn’t? Read on if you want to see some of my meanderings on such liberal topics as freedom, personal security, and tree-hugging, heart-bleeding and that sort of stuff. And if you don’t want to read that, go watch Fox “news.”

In the last few years, since I first heard the word blog on NPR’s Says You! program (and the panel struggled to come up with the answer that it is a truncation of “weblog”) I have been intrigued by the idea. Blogs, vlogs, video files, image sharing sites, etc. have exploded on the worldscape and these days it seems everyone is publishing something. When I was young if you wanted to be seen in a foreign country, you had to have big bucks or know someone there. As a child in the late Sixties, we never could have imagined the global reach that each one of us can have with little effort.

I am the director of ORCA, a local nonprofit community TV station. We deal with local people mostly on a local level, yet we have statewide reach. With our YouTube page, the program samples there have global reach.

Now here’s a little history. I was born and raised in the bosom of the Green Mountain State, which remains my home. Though my address has not changed much, I consider myself well-traveled.  Germany, UK, Ireland, Denmark, Bosnia are just some of the countries that have left an impression on my world view. I’ve spent more time traveling east across the “pond” then west across our beautiful nation. Nevertheless, I always enjoy walking in my own front door at the end of a trip.

My plan is that with this blog I will share some of these impressions, images, and philosophies as they float through my consciousness.  I may share something that you don’t agree with, and I hope you will let me know.  As I share my stories, you are invited to share yours.

I believe in dialog as a process. I believe in life as a journey. I believe in humor as a vehicle. I believe in love as an expression of the higher self which can not be fully understood.
